Our Vision at Heolddu

At Heolddu, we recognise that skills and knowledge are inseparably intertwined and mutually interdependent. By developing the knowledge and skills of our pupils, we will ensure that they are well equipped to succeed personally, academically and beyond.

Our vision is to develop a literacy-rich culture in which our pupils acquire the literacy skills they need to become

  • Ambitious, capable learners who are ready to learn throughout their lives.

  • Enterprising, creative contributors who are ready to play a full part in life and work.

  • Ethical, informed citizens who are ready to be citizens of Wales and the world.

  • Healthy, confident individuals who are ready to lead fulfilling lives as valued members of society.

The National Literacy and Numeracy Framework 2013 (LNF) is designed to help teachers embed literacy and numeracy into all subjects for learners aged 5 to 14.

The LNF sets the literacy skills we expect learners to develop. The delivery of the LNF is the responsibility of all teachers, and departmental pathways are mapped out accordingly.

At Heolddu, we expect learners to become accomplished in

▪ Oracy across the Curriculum

▪ Reading across the Curriculum

▪ Writing across the Curriculum

At Heolddu, our strategy aims to combat deficiencies in pupils’ oracy, reading and writing skills. The strategy comprises of the following instructional frameworks

• Combating Deficiencies in Oracy

• Combating Deficiencies in Writing

• Combating Deficiencies in Reading
